A 5-Metre Inflatable Product Replica Built at True Proportions
Wonder Balloons designed and fabricated a 5-metre inflatable replica of Cuckoo's water purifier for the CUCKOOTOPIA Music Fest, built to hold the product's true proportions and to be redeployed at later events.
Project Background
CUCKOO International is one of Malaysia's most recognised home appliance brands, known for its water purifiers and household rental products. In 2024 the company marked its 10th anniversary in the Malaysian market.
The Challenge
For the culmination of its 10th anniversary year, CUCKOO International staged the CUCKOOTOPIA Music Fest at Surf Beach, Sunway Lagoon - an 18,000-attendee event. The brand needed a centrepiece that would read instantly as CUCKOO from anywhere across an open festival ground.
A giant replica of the product itself was the obvious answer and the difficult one. Cuckoo's purifier is a hard-surfaced product: straight edges, flat panels, defined proportions, precise brand detailing. Inflatable construction pulls against every one of those. Internal air pressure wants to round every corner and bow every flat face, and a replica that loses its proportions stops being the product and becomes a generic shape in brand colours.
Artwork had to hold up under the same pressure - graphics printed on a curved, inflated surface distort differently than on flat material, and the product's detailing had to remain readable at five metres.
Wonder Balloons Execution
Wonder Balloons designed and fabricated a 5-metre inflatable replica of the Cuckoo purifier.
The build was engineered to hold the product's true proportions at scale - internal structure and panel construction worked against the natural rounding of an inflatable, so flat faces stayed flat and edges stayed defined.
Artwork went through an extended finalisation process, with print positioning mapped to the inflated form rather than the flat pattern, so branding and product detailing sat correctly once the unit was standing.
The replica was deployed at the CUCKOOTOPIA Music Fest and built for repeat deployment rather than a single use.
The Result
The replica has been redeployed at subsequent Cuckoo events beyond the anniversary concert, functioning as a reusable brand asset rather than a one-event build.
