Project Background

Pos Malaysia Berhad is the national postal and parcel service provider, connecting communities across every postcode in the country. Its flagship community running event, the Pos Malaysia Run, debuted in 2024 and has grown into one of Malaysia's larger lifestyle runs, drawing over 7,000 participants by its second edition.

Problem & Requirement

The Challenge

For the inaugural Pos Malaysia Run in 2024, the organisers needed a start line at Dataran Merdeka that would work as both a functional race structure and the event's primary photo backdrop—the image that carries the brand across every participant's social feed.

A city-centre run brings constraints that an open padang event does not. The road closure window is fixed and short. Power and water supply on site are shared, contested, and confirmed late. Multiple coordinators—event organiser, city authority, and brand team—each hold part of the approval. Every structure also had to be race-safe for thousands of runners passing beneath it under Kuala Lumpur heat.

Wonder Balloons Execution

Wonder Balloons handled the project end to end: concept, design, fabrication, and on-site installation.

We designed and built a custom inflatable start arch fitted with an integrated mist system, cooling runners as they passed through—turning the start structure into part of the race experience rather than mere decoration above it.

We also designed, fabricated, and installed a full inflatable runner tunnel, a structure rarely seen at Malaysian runs, giving the route an enclosed passage that reads dramatically on camera and on the ground. On event day, our team supplied pacer helium balloons for the pacing crew, keeping timing groups visible across a field spread over the 5km and 10km routes.

Our crew was on site for over twelve hours across installation, rehearsal, and pack-down—coordinating power and water connections, running the mist system through full rehearsal before flag-off, and working across multiple event stakeholders throughout.

Results & Outcomes

The Result

Pos Malaysia retained Wonder Balloons across consecutive editions of the run, redeploying the setup as the event scaled from its 2024 debut to over 7,000 runners in 2025.

Wonder Balloons also offered installation training to the client's internal crew so the setup can be deployed efficiently across future activations.
